It can be frustrating for a blogger who has put in a great deal of time and effort to write what they consider a good blog, only to find that nobody reads it.
So here are a few blogging tips on how to drive traffic to your blog:
- Find way to make your articles topical within your niche; don’t always delve on the past. There is little purpose writing about old news unless you can put a new spin on it, so write about current matters or products
- Make articles timeless – write your blog so that it will be equally relevant and readable in 12 months time
- Be innovative and write about matters that nobody else or few are writing about. Finding the right niche is important
- Invite and encourage people to post their responses. Discussion breeds interest, and lets your readers feel valued and included
- Balance volume with content – if you plan to publish your blog frequently, don’t make them too long. Split your articles into steps or related tips to encourage return visitors
- Include links to previous blogs – this will increase reader’s awareness of your work and helps Google to index your site
- Write for different levels of understanding – it’s great to show you know your stuff, but don’t assume all of your readers will have the same level of expertise – deal with the basics too
- Be controversial – where appropriate, this is a good method to attract responses from other bloggers as well as readers. They will hopefully include links to your blog in their comments which may in turn introduce some of their blog readers and new traffic to yours.
