Getting advertisers on your site is a good way to monetize your blog, but just what do you need to get those advertisers interested in helping to sponsor or advertise on your blog?
It is probably easiest to start with a bit of reverse logic in the first instance and establish what they would not like to see on checking out your blog site.
So before you take the plunge and start making enquiries with advertisers, consider the following:
- Advertisers like to see a bit of professionalism so make sure your site and your email includes a little intro explaining what you and your blog are all about
- Don’t waste time writing to every advertiser and company you can think of. Select those you think would view your blog site as complementary - check to see what products and services could be of interest to your target audience
- They will look to see how many posts you have on your site and when the last one was posted. Little or no history could be a serious put off so ensure that you are blogging regularly and with high frequency
- Potential advertisers will look at how many other adverts you have on your site. It is not easy to get that first advertiser and they know it so be prepared to accept a less than ideal offer for those early adverts
- Image is everything even on the Internet so ensure your contact address is your name@your blog.xxx or the site you are trying to sell advertising space on – avoid using xxx@ hotmail or yahoo. It makes you appear more professional and clarifies your authority to write on behalf of the blog
- Grammar – advertisers will look at the quality of the writing so make sure there are no basic typos or grammar errors. If need be, get somebody else to proof read it
